Kieran: 0:02
I'll just quickly brief on exactly what's going on, i’m just transcribing the interview as well, so I can like write it up for my uni course. Do i have your consent for the interviews, is that Okay?
Gambino:
Yeah, that's fine.
Kieran:
Okay, perfect. Basically I'm doing a brief for a new music company, they do like magazines and stuff. And they gave me a brief to make a publication for a brand called DMY which stands for do music yourself, and my goal is just to get some like information from different artists and I'm interviewing as many as I can, just to get some info on what they wish they knew, their experience, just some overall information, what it's like to be an artist really and how it was coming up. Okay. The first question is, what does the term do music yourself mean to you as an artist?
Gambino: 1:04
Well, from your point just describing, it's as simple as doing everything yourself, I guess. I don't know what you want me to elaborate on. The term do it yourself do you want me to just describe it?
Kieran 1:27
Yeah, just like what does it mean to basically be an independent artist yeah.
Gambino: 1:34
Yeah, do it yourself is as simple as be independent, I guess. Do everything yourself. The name is really self explanatory.
Kieran: 1:48
What made you decide you wanted to make music?
Gambino: 1:55
For me, music came out as a source of healing because I was in the army. Well, just before leaving the Army, i find it as a form of a healing and so it was not like I sat down and I said, Oh, since I was a kid, I wanted to do music. I think Music was a process that came as a part of my healing process, just before leaving the army. So I decided to do music to basically to just put myself in a position to be able to feel other people's pain and make them happy. So basically, for joy, happiness and to entertain people.
