Indesign Cards process

Reflection

Katie did some development and planning of how the cards could look and experimented with different style and motifs that would work for the suits. Kept the aesthetic super clean and simple - in line with DMY but still of its own aesthetic. Important to make the card readable when small since they are going to be printed the same size as normal playing cards - the graphics are string and eye-catching for this reason. Belle formulated the cards on the InDesign however we realised that there were some issues with symmetry due to Belle’s InDesign. We knew that to achieve a professional outcome we needed to make sure all content was snapped and correctly aligned. Katie then went onto re-align the content.

Reflection:

Katie made the manual within Indesign and kept the branding in-keeping with the cards which had been completed. Ensuring that the aesthetic was simple and not overly crowded was a major part of making sure that the outcome felt like it could be sold and distributed by DMY. Also were sure to include the Instagram handles of everyone who has been involved in the creation of The DMY Deck as this is a big part of promoting the Artist to Artist communication and using DMY to support upcoming arsis.

Reflection:

Symmetry was a massive factor when creating this grid like structure to go within the poster. Katie made sure that all boxes and spaces was identical to ensure for the most professional outcome possible. Ensured that all background colouring was consistent and played around a lot with the layout and order so we could achieve the most balanced visual structure. As we didn’t have time to take our own photographs of the artists it was so important to edit the imagery that seemed consistent and cohesive. This was by far the biggest challenge when creating the cards and poster. The way that Katie combatted this was by playing around extensively with the scale and colour balance. Editing the darkness, brightness, hues, balance, and contrast.
